Surprising Comforts: What I Saw in Monterrey’s Communities

One of the things that stuck with me most during my visit was the housing.
I’ve seen adobe-style condos built for working-class families that would easily outshine some of the public housing and trailers in the United States. Thoughtful architecture. Practical layouts. A sense of pride in the spaces people call home.
Travel gives you a chance to compare not in judgment, but in curiosity: Why don’t we do it this way back home? Could we?
I’m not saying we need to adopt every social policy from another country, but I do wish more seniors in the U.S. had access to comfortable, affordable adult communities, places where they could age with dignity without selling their entire life just to cover the cost.
It’s one of those reflections that stays with you long after your suitcase is unpacked.
