About This Art:

Metal Embossing, also known as Pewter Repousse in French, or Repujado en Lamina in Spanish, is an ancient art form used to impart a design upon malleable metal sheets. The most commonly used metals include pewter, copper, and aluminum.

The name repoussé is derived from the French pousser, “to push forward.” This ancient technique, which has been used extensively throughout the history of metalworking, achieved widespread popularity in Europe during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.

Metal embossing is the art of creating patterns or designs in metals using a stylus or other tool. Designs can be engraved or pressed into the back of the metal sheet, creating a raised look.

Metal embossing can have a minimalist style or be very ornate and complex. It is a fine art form with displays in the Smithsonian Museum.

I hope you enjoy my art!
