The Busy Side of the Holiday Season (And Why You’re Not Doing It Wrong)

The holidays are often described as magical, but they’re also busy. Really busy.
Between packed calendars, end-of-year deadlines, school events, shopping lists, travel plans, and trying to make everything feel “special,” it can start to feel like the season is happening to us instead of with us. If you’ve caught yourself saying, “I just need to get through the next two weeks,” you’re not alone.
This time of year has a unique way of speeding everything up. There’s pressure to show up everywhere, do everything, and somehow still feel joyful while doing it. But the truth is, the holidays don’t always look calm or picture-perfect, and that doesn’t mean you’re failing at them.
Busy doesn’t mean ungrateful. Tired doesn’t mean unjoyful. And choosing simplicity doesn’t mean you care any less.
Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen in between the rush: a laugh in the car between errands, a quiet exhale once the house finally settles, a text from someone you didn’t expect to hear from. These small pauses matter just as much as the big traditions.
If this season feels full, emotionally, mentally, or physically, it’s okay to adjust your expectations. Say no when you need to. Let something be “good enough.” Create space where you can, even if it’s just a few minutes of quiet in the middle of the day.
The holidays don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. They just have to be real.
So if you’re feeling busy, stretched thin, or a little behind, take heart. You’re not alone, and you’re doing the best you can in a season that asks a lot.
Wishing you moments of calm in the middle of the chaos, and grace for yourself along the way.
