The Monterrey I Never Expected

When I first visited Monterrey, Mexico, I didn’t know what to expect. I’d seen photos, of course, but nothing compares to standing in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental with that warm desert sun on your shoulders. It’s the kind of beauty that makes you stop, breathe, and wonder why you never thought about this place before.
Monterrey’s story stretches back to 1596, founded by Diego de Montemayor and later shaped by its rise as an industrial center. The city’s history is woven into everything. The architecture, the culture, the proud sense of identity that pulses through the streets.
Most of us go about our daily routines never thinking much beyond our own hometowns. We know the neighborhoods we avoid, the places we love, the rhythms that feel familiar. But stepping into a different city, especially one so often misunderstood, opens your eyes in ways you don’t expect.
Monterrey is a city of contrasts, yes. But there is so much beauty here, both in the landscape and the spirit of the people. And once you see it, you can’t forget it.
More memories to come :) Take care.
